Google has officially launched the Fitbit Air in India, bringing a new screenless approach to fitness tracking. Instead, it focuses on health and fitness monitoring while keeping notifications and other smartphone distractions away from the user's wrist.

The new wearable is designed for people who want continuous health tracking in a minimalist form factor. It offers features such as continuous heart-rate monitoring, sleep tracking, blood oxygen monitoring and automatic activity detection.

The fitness band will be available to purchase from October 2 through the Google Store, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Vijay Sales and other retail outlets across the country.Google is offering Rs 1,000 cashback on full payment or six-month no-cost EMI transactions using select HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank cards. Google Fitbit Air Features

The Fitbit Air takes a different approach to wearable technology by removing the display entirely. This allows users to wear the tracker throughout the day without having notifications, messages or other screen-based distractions constantly demanding their attention.

Despite its screenless design, the Fitbit Air offers several health and fitness tracking capabilities. It supports continuous heart-rate monitoring, resting heart-rate measurements and heart-rate variability (HRV) tracking. The wearable can also provide irregular heart rhythm notifications, including notifications related to atrial fibrillation (Afib). For sleep tracking, it offers detailed sleep analysis, while blood oxygen (SpO2) monitoring provides additional health-related data.

The Fitbit Air also supports automatic activity detection, allowing users to track supported activities without manually starting a workout every time.

Google Health Coach Integration

Health and fitness information collected by the Fitbit Air can be viewed through Google Health Coach. The platform uses the collected data to provide personalised insights and actionable guidance based on the user's activity and health metrics.

Google is also making activity logging more convenient by allowing users to use their smartphone camera to capture gym equipment and workout routines. This makes the Fitbit Air less about viewing information directly on the wrist and more about collecting health data that can be analysed through the smartphone.

Fitbit Air Battery Life

The Fitbit Air is claimed to offer up to seven days of battery life on a single charge. It also supports fast charging for situations when users need additional battery life quickly. According to Google, five minutes of charging can provide up to a full day of battery life. The combination of a screenless design and long battery life could make the wearable suitable for users who want to wear a fitness tracker continuously without frequently charging it.
