Samsung Galaxy Buds On With Open-Ear Clip-On Design, 9.5-Hour Battery Life Launched

Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy Buds On, its first clip-on wireless earphones under the Galaxy Buds lineup. Unlike traditional in-ear earbuds, the new earphones feature an open-ear design that sits around the ear without blocking the ear canal.The design is aimed at users who want to listen to music or take calls while remaining aware of their surroundings. Samsung has also introduced features focused on audio quality, call clarity and hands-free AI interactions.

The Galaxy Buds On will initially launch in South Korea before becoming available in other global markets.

The Samsung Galaxy Buds On is priced at KRW 299,000, which is approximately Rs. 21,000. The earphones will go on sale in South Korea from October 27 in a Black colour option.Samsung has confirmed that a global rollout will follow, although the company has not yet announced specific availability details for India.

Samsung Galaxy Buds On Design

The Galaxy Buds On takes a different approach from Samsung's conventional Galaxy Buds models. It features a clip-on, open-ear design that sits around the ear instead of going inside the ear canal.Samsung says it studied different ear shapes while developing the product to determine the positioning of the speakers and battery. The earphones feature a wider contact area and an adjustable band designed to provide a secure fit during movement.

The open-ear construction allows users to remain aware of ambient sounds while listening to music or making calls, making the design particularly suitable for outdoor use.

Audio Features

For audio playback, the Galaxy Buds On is equipped with Samsung's TwinBoost speakers and an automatic volume control feature. The latter can adjust the listening volume based on the surrounding environment.Samsung has also included Audio Leakage Reduction technology, which is designed to reduce sound escaping from the earphones. This could be useful when using the earbuds in shared environments such as offices, cafes and libraries.

The Galaxy Buds On is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform paired with a Class-D amplifier.Samsung claims the earphones can deliver up to 9.5 hours of music playback on a single charge.

Call and Voice Features

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Buds On with three microphones, a bone-conduction-based Voice Pickup Unit sensor and machine-learning technology.

The setup is designed to distinguish the user's voice from background noise and improve call clarity. Samsung says the technology can help maintain clearer calls in challenging environments, including areas with strong wind or noise from indoor appliances.

Galaxy AI and Hands-Free Features

The open-ear design also enables several hands-free features when the Galaxy Buds On is paired with compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets.Users can launch Gemini Live through a voice command and record notes using Quick Voice Memo. Samsung has also introduced Head Gestures, allowing users to perform certain actions such as answering calls, dismissing alarms and checking message notifications without reaching for their phone.

These features require compatible Galaxy devices and may vary depending on the device and software version.

Connectivity and Controls

The Galaxy Buds On automatically connects with compatible Galaxy smartphones and tablets when the charging case is opened.

Samsung also allows users to control functions such as volume and equaliser settings directly through the connected Galaxy device's settings or Quick Panel. The company says users do not need to open the Galaxy Wearable app for these controls.

Missing Specifications

Samsung has not yet revealed several detailed specifications of the Galaxy Buds On. These include the complete driver configuration, Bluetooth version, supported audio codecs and detailed charging specifications.More information is expected around the product's South Korean retail launch on October 27.
