Instagram Lets Users Add Tagged Posts to Main Profile Grid: How It Works

Instagram has introduced a new feature that gives users greater control over how their profiles look by allowing them to add posts they are tagged in directly to their main profile grid.

The new option means users can showcase tagged content alongside their own posts without having to upload the content again. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri confirmed the feature in a post, saying that users can now add posts they are tagged in to their profile grid.The feature is being rolled out globally and is designed to give users more flexibility in managing the content displayed on their profiles.

Instagram Tagged Posts Can Now Appear on the Main Grid

Previously, posts in which users were tagged were primarily displayed in the dedicated Tagged section of their Instagram profiles. With the new feature, users can select tagged posts and make them visible on their main profile grid.This can be particularly useful for group photos, collaborations and other posts created by friends, creators or brands that users want to showcase on their profiles.

Importantly, adding a tagged post to the main grid does not create a duplicate upload. The original post remains on the account of the person who published it.

Three Ways to Add Tagged Posts to the Instagram Grid

Instagram currently offers three ways to add a tagged post to the main profile grid.

1. From the Direct Message notification

When someone tags you in a post, Instagram sends a notification. Users can access the relevant option from this notification to add the tagged post to their profile grid.

2. From the post's three-dot menu

Users can also open the tagged post and tap the three-dot menu. An option to add the post to their profile grid can then be selected, where available.

3. From the Tagged section

Another option is available through the Tagged tab on the user's profile. Users can long-press a tagged post and choose to add it to their main profile grid.

These options make it easier to decide which tagged content should be featured publicly on the primary profile.

Tagged Posts Will Follow the Profile Grid Arrangement

Once a tagged post is added to the main profile grid, it will appear alongside the user's existing posts. New additions are generally placed according to the profile grid's arrangement, with recently added content appearing at the top.

Users who prefer to maintain their existing profile layout can continue managing the arrangement of their content without having to permanently publish the tagged post themselves.

The feature therefore provides another way to personalise the appearance of an Instagram profile without changing ownership of the original content.

Removing a Tagged Post Does Not Delete the Original

One important aspect of the new feature is that users can remove a tagged post from their main profile grid without deleting the original post.

Removing the post from the main grid does not remove the user's tag or delete the original upload. The content can still remain available in the Tagged section of the profile.This gives users greater control over which tagged posts are prominently displayed while keeping the original content intact.

Instagram Feature Rolling Out Globally

Instagram has started rolling out the ability to add tagged posts to the main profile grid globally. However, the feature may not be immediately available to every account as the rollout continues.The company has not provided a specific timeline for when the option will reach all Instagram users.
